"Parthenogenesis"

Theresa Sauer

Theresa Sauer – musicologist and composer who has been inspired by innovative composers, like John Cage, her entire life.  A student of the famously reactive Raoul Pleskow, who often compared her work to Scriabin, Theresa has drawn inspiration from art, science, and the natural world.  Her master’s thesis was a choral masterwork, Namaqualand, which took inspiration from the minimalists; school of Glass, Reich, Young, and Riley and the miracle of desert life.  A piano teacher and pedagogist for many years, she published a series of piano education volumes. She was featured and published by the Piano Guild of America.  Theresa has been a member of ASCAP since the beginning of her career as a composer, and is also a member of a IAWM. She has several upcoming articles to be published in the IAWM Journal, and others.  Her latest composition, Parthenogenesis, an improvisational piece for vocalists, spoken word, and da’uli da’uli, was presented at November 2007’s Society of Literature, Science and the Arts conference in Maine. Theresa has also studied at the New School’s Parson’s School of Design and is a digital artist.
